Pin of the Day - May 20, 2015

Today's 'Pin of the Day' is about a beauty product near and dear to my heart. Younique 3D Fiber Lashes mascara has completely changed my life - by giving me long, lush lashes AND giving me an amazing business that I can work from anywhere with just my cell phone!!

Have you decided to try Younique 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara ? Do you have issues with clumping? Chances are....one of the tips below applies to you and will help you get the perfect lash look that you desire.

1) You’re using regular mascara underneath your 3D Fiber Lashes. Yes, the insert that comes with Younique’s mascara says to use over regular mascara, but as you know, all mascaras are not the same. Try using your 3D Fiber Lashes without regular mascara underneath. You just might like it. Note: I don’t use regular mascara underneath the Younique mascara. It’s my preference and I’ve found that I like my lashes better when I’m only using Younique’s. If you are adamant about using mascara underneath, make sure you are using a “lengthening” mascara and not a “thickening” mascara as this can cause clumps. I used to use Maybelline Lash Discovery mascara underneath with no problem.

2) Using too much gel or fibers. Sometimes when you first start using the gel, a lot of it gets on the lash brush. Try scraping a good amount of it off. Use less gel and less fibers, and build “layers” versus trying to achieve the look with one coat. The mascara is buildable so use less, just more coats. For example: gel, fibers, gel. Let sit for 30 seconds then gel, fibers, gel again.

3) Not letting the fibers set long enough. If you don’t let the fibers set long enough and stick to the gel, it can cause the fibers to stick to the wand. Below is my method to applying 3D Fiber Lashes. Switching off between eyes gives the fibers time to set and won’t come off on the gel wand, which can cause clumping. Try applying Younique 3D Fiber Lashes Mascara in this order:
  1. Gel eye 1, Fiber eye 1

  2. Gel eye 2, Fiber eye 2

  3. Gel eye 1 to seal the fibers in

  4. Gel eye 2 to seal the fibers in

  5. Repeat to continue building on the length/thickness.

I also recommend having a metal lash comb in your makeup bag in case you need to separate any of your lashes. Younique sells a fantastic, sturdy lash comb/brow brush for only $20 that separates, tames, and declumps lashes. I have a couple lashes that seem to always group together and this comb is perfect for splitting the two up. Shop for the brush here.

Pin of the Day - November 13

Where oh where have I been??  Every day I think to myself..."I really need to get back to my blog" and every day life just seems to get in the way!!  Plus, I get so busy pinning great stuff that I totally run out of time to get on and blog about it :)

Today's 'pin of the day' is a recipe that looks SO delicious...and it comes from my all time favorite food blogger Culinary Concoctions By Peabody !  The recipe is for a Captain Crunch Chocolate Chip Cookie.  How amazing does that sound?  So amazing that I really want to head into the kitchen right.this.second to make some.  This pin was very popular, as Peabody's recipes always are, currently it has 521 likes and 1,119 repins.  Looks like I'm not the only one craving Captain Crunch and chocolate chips all wrapped up in a yummy cookie!

Although these cookies would be perfect for just about any reason, I think they would be so fun to do as a school snack for your kiddos, a birthday party or the next sleepover at your house (be it for children or adults!)

You can find the recipe here Culinary Concoctions By Peabody .... if you're a fan of fabulous recipes you'll definitely want to follow Peabody's blog so you don't miss out on her next amazing concoction!  You can see my original pin here

More strange comments!

I apologize that I've been MIA for a few days!!  Last week I had a dinner with some fabulous women from a new startup based out of San Francisco called Luvocracy....and I've been totally obsessed with it since, hence the neglecting of my little blog!  I'll be back to tell you more about Luvocracy later....for now I'll just say that I'm super excited about it :)

Instead of a 'pin of the day', for this entry I'm going to revisit the topic of the strange comments I receive from some of my Pinterest followers.  A few days ago I pinned these cute little lunch box notes from a company called Say Please.  I originally found them on Totsy, one of my favorite deal websites.

Now that I'm packing a lunch for Addison to take to school I thought these would be so cute to stick in with her sandwich every day.  Apparently, there are some people out there who disagree with me!!

The first comment I got was nice, and totally normal!

I have purchased these, and they are awesome!

After this, the strange comments started...

So the note says "I love the person you've become". Which means what, that the person was not loved before? that love is conditional? that you aren't loved unless you conform to someone else's ideals? That's some seriously sad crap.

Whoa lady...a little sensitive about a lunchbox note!!  Next up (from a different person)...

yeah, like "you look nice today". Backhanded compliment. Wonder what else is in Lunch Box Love?

Really, people???  Then came (from a different person yet again)...

What else? How about "No, those pants don't make you look fat. Your fat makes you look fat!! Well, you asked. We could produce a whole line of snarky lunchbox love.

Wow...I just wanted to put some cute notes in my 5 year old's lunchbox!  The last one was more along the lines of what I was thinking as I read all the crazy comments....although I'm not sure I'd go so far as calling perfect strangers fat idiots!!!

Oh shut up you idiots!!! This is sweet it's just sad that you lonely housewives have nothing better to do than sit on your fat asses and dis other peoples photos with your "ideas"

Just goes to show...you never know what kind of characters are actually checking out what you post online!  I suppose I have to expect a few weirdos among my 2.8+ million followers :)  For the record (and to protect the identity of those weirdos!) I deleted the comments after copying and pasting here.

After reading how people really feel, if you're in the market for some of your own lunchbox notes you can find them on Amazon.com (the Totsy sale is no longer active).

Pin of the Day - October 10

Today's 'pin of the day' is pretty simple.  And also pretty wonderful :)  It was pretty popular too - currently with 426 likes and 1,076 repins.

I've never been one to keep a journal.  I've always *wanted* to...but I just don't have the patience or ability to commit to writing every day (or more than once every 6 months!)  You can find my pin here.   This pin is for a simple daily calendar...each day you write down the year and something that happened that day.  Some days will include very significant events, and others may just be filled with regular daily activities.  It would be so awesome after a few years to look back and see what you previously did on that exact date.

In addition to doing this for myself for the upcoming year I think it would be a fun gift to give those that I love.  You can find a full 'how-to' on putting this gift together on the lovely blog Design Sponge.

Pin of the Day - October 9

The 'pin of the day' for Tuesday was popular (currently with 251 likes and 288 repins), as are all my pins from the fabulous Etsy shop Around My Wrist.  A few months ago, my dear friend Amy started making macrame bracelets for fun.  Right away, she started selling the bracelets to friends and family, donating all the money to another friend who was participating in the Susan G. Komen Seattle 3 Day walk for breast cancer.  People immediately fell in love with her bracelets and she could hardly make them fast enough to keep up with the requests!!  After making enough bracelets to account for over $500 in donations to Susan G. Komen, Amy finally decided to start up her own Etsy shop!!

Since starting her shop she's been selling out of bracelets left and right! The above bracelet is one of my favorites so far. And I love the cross bracelet below too.  This one has been CRAZY popular and it's been almost impossible for Amy to keep the cross beads in stock to make more bracelets.

I'm so happy for my sweet friend and her newfound success doing something she loves.  I look forward to adding to my collection of bracelets from Around My Wrist.  Make sure to visit Amy's shop and pick out your own favorite....you owe yourself (or someone you love) the treat!!!

Pin of the Day - October 8

The 'pin of the day' for Monday was immediately popular (currently with 498 likes and 849 repins). Fall is definitely my favorite season. By the time the end of September rolls around I'm ready to pack away my summer clothes and break out the cozy sweaters! Fall in Seattle can be a little tricky. It's often cold enough for a sweater in the morning...and by the late afternoon you feel like you need shorts and a tank top! I saw this gorgeous outfit on a friends Pinterest page this afternoon and I just had to pin!!

You can find my pin here. I did a little searching online and finally found that the picture originated from a blog called Lilly's Style. I have a serious penchant for Tory Burch Reva flats and especially love them paired with skinny jeans. On the blog it looks like Lilly wore this outfit for a casual Friday in April but it really screams fall to me! Since temps in Seattle were still in the 70s today I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for my comfy sweaters....maybe next week??

Pin of the Day - October 7

The 'pin of the day' for Sunday has definitely had the most repins (currently with 1,088 likes and 2420 repins), which is especially crazy since I only pinned this 5 hours ago!  I can't believe I'm thinking about (or pinning!!) Christmas items already but when I saw this on another friends page I couldn't pass it up.

What a super cute, and ridiculously easy idea!  This would be the perfect centerpiece for your home this December, and a great go-to hostess gift for all those holiday parties you'll be attending!  I'm also thinking it would be a good back up gift to have ready for friends or neighbors who drop by with unexpected gifts!  If you wanted to use it for that purpose then you could fill the vase with candy/cookies/fudge since you may not have fresh flowers around your house at all times.

You can find my pin and some simple instructions here.  As far as I can trace it back - it seems as though the original idea for this 'candy cane vase' came from Katie Brown Home Workshop.  This blog seems to have tons of other great ideas to check out!!  I'm going to file the candy cane idea away for a couple months but I'm looking forward to making my own once I see some candy canes for sale!
